Lower Capital Costs Via A "Blended Approach"

To meet the evolving nature of philanthropy today and the demand for alternative sources of capital, our "Social Capital Funding Program" is made possible due to our strategic alliance and administrative relationship with Inspired Life Centers, Inc., a 30 year old public charity.

For our clients, the objectives of our "social capital funding structures" are to:
  • Expand capital sources beyond the private sector
  • Lower average capital costs
  • Provide more ownership & control to our clients; as well as incorporate investment, retirement and legacy strategies

Investing for social and environmental impact:
a design for catalyzing an emerging industry

Picture
Investors around the world are seeking to make investments that generate social and environmental value as well as financial return. JP Morgan asserts this to be an "emerging asset class". Impact Investing has the potential to become a potent force for addressing global challenges.

This report examines impact investing and how leaders could accelerate the industry's evolution and increase its ultimate impact in the world. It explores how impact investing has emerged and how it might evolve, including profiles of a wide range of impact investors. The report also provides a blueprint of initiatives to catalyze the industry.

The strategy was completed in January 2009 with lead funding and support from the Rockefeller Foundation. Funding was also provided by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and JPMorgan Chase Foundation.

An insightful, easy-to-digest overview of the burgeoning phenomenon that is "Impact Investing"..."investment strategies that generate financial return while intentionally improving social and environmental conditions."

This is a must-read for current and potential impact investors, social entrepreneurs, the philanthropic community, and policymakers interested in impact investing.

While this is a cautiously optimistic book about impact investing both as an (emerging) asset class as well as an approach to portfolio management. It strives to bridge the silos between the social sector practitioners and the financial capital-markets players without taking ideological positions for or against each side.

For the finance types, this is not a how-to book on impact investing as it does not focus on the pricing and valuation methodologies, rather it's more of a framework for approaching investing that incorporates social objectives into an entire asset management portfolio.

For the social sector practitioners, it's a great primer to help un-demonize the financial markets' role and its potentially huge contribution to the impact investing space and the social sector, if framed appropriately.
