Growing A Successful Business: In 1974, immediately after graduate school, Greg Johnson founded a real estate development and financing firm. Five years later he merged the firm with a 25-year old mortgage banking firm looking to refresh its ownership, management and operations.
The next several years proved disastrous. The bank prime lending rate increased to 21.5%; and FHA home mortgage rates skyrocketed to 17%. Many developers went broke and mortgage lenders closed their doors. To survive, Johnson and his management team were forced to innovate and develop 'out of the box' strategies. Timeshare lending and participation-loans with the newly deregulated savings banks enabled the firm to not only survive but thrive...generating record sales and profits.
